Our stylist is regional finalist in L’Oréal competition
At RJ’s we believe that entering competitions is a brilliant way to keep our creative juices flowing and it ensures we stay right on trend. We love the challenge of trying out different styles and colours, to create exciting new looks!
Our stylist Natalie has just competed in the L’Oréal Colour Trophy, which is the longest running live hairdressing competition in the world.
Here’s how Natalie got on
“My approach was to create a look that was very wearable, the sort of style that clients desire as they walk past adverts in salon windows. I took my inspiration from the current Balayage trend, creating an individual colour style to perfectly suit my model. The colour palettes I wanted was warm, yet soft in tones. So, I went with a rich brown base, blended with copper, blondes and subtle hints of rose gold to break the base up. I also used smartbond to keep the hair in tip top condition.”
I was so delighted to win a place in the live final!
“With so many people entering the competition, I was made up to be invited to compete in the live final at Hammersmith Apollo in London. In total, there were thirty-five other hair dressers taking part in the southern competition. It was such an exciting day for me seeing all the models and the other competitors buzzing around and there was a great atmosphere. The day went unbelievably quickly, rehearsing and getting ready for the evening show.”
Getting ready for the live show was so exciting!
“Finally, the audience started to arrive. With 30 minutes on the clock we had to style our models, apply their makeup and get them quickly into their chosen outfits. I went for soft waves with a heavy parted fringe to co-ordinate with my sunset Balayage, along with a glam grunge feel to her clothes and make up. The time seemed to fly by and before you knew it, we had to put down the tongs and step away as my model went off to prepare for the runway.”
The level of work was outstanding
“At this point, I could then sit back and enjoy the rest of the show and enjoy looking at all the other models from the colour trophy competition. The work was outstanding, such a high standard and you could tell that everyone was appreciative of each other’s work. We all watched on as the judges walked around and they really had their work cut out deciding on finalists.”
“Unfortunately, this year I just missed out on reaching the final, but I will definitely be there again next year! I learnt a lot and walked away feeling inspired and proud to have been a regional finalist of such a prestigious hair competition.”
Well done to all the other salons that entered and produced such beautiful work.
